Three-Tier Notes

Jotaid uses a three-layer architecture inspired by Design Thinking to help you organize knowledge from big-picture down to atomic ideas.

The Three Layers

LayerTypePurpose
TopProjectHigh-level container for a research topic or initiative
MiddleThemeGroups related notes under a meaningful direction
BottomNoteThe atomic unit — a single idea or observation

How It Works

  1. Projects are the broadest containers. Think of them as books or research areas
  2. Themes live inside Projects. They're like chapters — each one clusters related notes
  3. Notes are individual entries. They hold your actual content and can link to any other note

Converting Between Types

  • Note → Theme: Right-click → Convert to Theme. The note becomes a grouping container
  • Theme → Note: Only possible when the Theme has no children. Right-click → Convert to Note

Deleting Themes or Projects

When you delete a Theme or Project, Jotaid asks:

  • Keep children: Sub-notes move up to the parent level
  • Delete all: Everything inside is removed
